Arianna Huffington

Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington (Greek American) is a Greek American writer, syndicated-columnist and businesswoman. She has written fifteen books. She is also the co-founder the magazine The Huffington Post. Arianna Huffington works as an author, philanthropist, television host, and also the proprietor of The Huffington Post. She emigrated out of Greece to England when she was 16 years old, and obtained a MA from Cambridge University in Economics. The first non-English student to graduate, she was elected President of The Cambridge Union' at age 21. After graduation she made her mark as a conservative syndicated columnist and, with the launching of The Huffington Post' few years later, she launched an online voice portal which gave critical opinions about the current political climate. Her popularity allowed her to persuade a number of stars to voice their views regarding current affairs, the as well as politics and culture. Arianna gained notoriety in 2003 when she ran as an independent candidate in the California recall elections to replace Governor Davis. Aside from that, Arianna was also the leader of the Detroit campaign to encourage fuel-efficient cars. In 2009 she was named by Forbes as one of the top women in media gaining 12th position in the list and in the same year Guardian included her in the top 100 of media lists. AOL Inc. acquired The Huffington Post, and she was made president of the media company. This included many AOL products at that time, including Engadget AOL style list and Patch Media. Their parents are Elli and Konstantinos Stasinopoulos. They were an expert in management and a journalist. She was very close with her father. However, it was the relationship she had with her mother which has shaped her. From her early years, she demonstrated leadership skills which are still widely admired. In her 16th year, she travelled to England for a degree and attended Girton College Cambridge. She enrolled in Cambridge Union, the Cambridge Union college debate society during her time at college and was the third female to serve as president. In 1972, her master's in Economics was awarded. In the years following her degree she worked as a journalist-critic and a host on TV. Also, she appeared on the series Face the music along with Bernard Levin and began writing books, utilizing editorial guidance from him.
